[Alpha Biz= Paul Lee] Amazon has officially entered the broader logistics market with the launch of “Amazon Supply Chain Services (ASCS),” opening its end-to-end logistics network to external businesses.
The move positions Amazon in direct competition with traditional U.S. logistics leaders such as FedEx and UPS, signaling a potential structural shift in the North American freight and fulfillment market.
Market reaction was immediate. Shares of FedEx and UPS each fell around 10% on the news, while fulfillment-focused GXO Logistics dropped 17%, and trucking firm Old Dominion Freight Line declined more than 6%.
Analysts, including those at Morgan Stanley, suggested Amazon’s expansion could have an impact on the logistics industry comparable to what Amazon Web Services did to the cloud sector.
