[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Minyoung] Jeju Air faced significant disruptions today, with over 40 flights delayed as a result of lightning strikes and weather issues. Although the global IT crisis that initially caused widespread problems with low-cost airline booking systems has been resolved, passengers at Incheon International Airport experienced considerable inconvenience.
For example, a flight scheduled to depart from Incheon to Kansai Airport in Osaka at 9:10 AM was delayed until 1:10 PM, and another flight to Da Nang, Vietnam, scheduled for 10:40 AM was delayed by four hours.
Passengers reported long waiting times at the airport, with some experiencing sudden gate changes and extended waits even after boarding.
Jeju Air explained that while their system was restored the previous night, the normalization process was affected by a lightning strike to an incoming aircraft from Vietnam, which required maintenance. Additionally, adverse weather conditions at the destination airports further compounded the delays.
