[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] Samyang Foods, the company behind the global hit Buldak Ramen, held a groundbreaking ceremony on July 3 for its first overseas production facility in Jiaxing, Zhejiang Province, China.
The Jiaxing plant will span 55,043 square meters of land with a total floor area of 58,378 square meters across three above-ground floors. It will house six production lines, with a total investment of KRW 201.4 billion (approx. USD 145 million). Completion is scheduled for January 2027.
Once operational, the factory is expected to produce up to 840 million units of Buldak Ramen annually, all of which will be supplied to the domestic Chinese market. Samyang Foods aims to enhance its localization strategy through product development tailored to Chinese consumer preferences and targeted marketing initiatives.
With the addition of the Jiaxing plant, Samyang Foods will operate five production bases in total, including existing facilities in Wonju, Iksan, and Miryang in South Korea. The company’s total annual production capacity for Buldak Ramen will increase to approximately 3.52 billion units.
Samyang also plans to implement international quality management standards at the new site. It aims to obtain certifications such as FSSC 22000 (Food Safety System Certification), ISO 22000 (Food Safety Management), and ISO 14001 (Environmental Management), all recognized by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI).
