[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] Seoul, July 24, 2025 – Orion announced today that it will voluntarily recall all ChamBungeoPpang products currently in distribution—worth approximately KRW 1.5 billion—following the confirmation of mold found in some items.



The company has requested a sales halt from retailers and plans to complete the product recall as quickly as possible. Orion promptly reported the issue to the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety and stated it will fully comply with all necessary follow-up procedures.



The recall targets all ChamBungeoPpang products manufactured before July 23. Consumers who have purchased the affected products are advised to contact the place of purchase or Orion’s customer service center. Refunds will be issued for products still within their shelf life. The recall does not apply to ChamBungeoPpang Custard Cream products, which are produced on a separate manufacturing line.



The recall was initiated after seven consumer complaints were reported this week—an unusually high number. Although internal analysis confirmed that the mold poses no health risk, Orion has requested an external examination for further verification.



Since the afternoon of July 23, Orion began purchasing products from the market for testing. As of today, 3,624 units collected from 126 retail outlets over two days showed no signs of mold.



Orion has launched a full inspection of the ChamBungeoPpang production process and identified a defect in the sealing section of certain packaging machines as the likely cause. Tiny gaps in the packaging may have allowed air to enter, and the recent heatwave and humidity created favorable conditions for mold growth.



Although only a specific production line was affected, all products are being recalled because the packaging does not indicate production line details. The faulty equipment has now been repaired.



An Orion spokesperson stated, “We have initiated a thorough inspection of the entire production process for ChamBungeoPpang sold domestically and plan to resume production in August after verifying safety. We deeply regret the shortcomings in our production and quality control processes and are committed to strengthening inspections across raw materials, production, and final products to prevent recurrence.”
