[Alpha Biz= Paul Lee] Korea Investment & Securities is reportedly exploring entry into the digital asset sector, including the potential acquisition of a stake in cryptocurrency exchange Coinone.
According to industry sources on April 2, the brokerage is reviewing various strategic options to expand into digital asset-related businesses, with equity investment in Coinone among the possibilities.
A company official stated, “We are considering multiple options, but nothing has been finalized at this stage.”
The move comes amid growing competition in the sector. In February, Mirae Asset Group disclosed plans to acquire a 92% stake in Korbit, the country’s fourth-largest crypto exchange, signaling increasing interest from traditional financial institutions in the digital asset market.
