[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Jisun] On September 9, EcoPro BM announced its collaboration with Chinese precursor manufacturer GEM to establish a business in Indonesia that encompasses the entire cathode materials ecosystem.
Additionally, EcoPro Materials will acquire a stake in GEM's nickel refinery in Indonesia, marking EcoPro's formal entry into the refining industry following its precursor business.
Lee Dong-chae, former chairman and major shareholder of EcoPro, recently met with GEM Chairman He Gaohua at EcoPro's Ochang headquarters, where they agreed on the plan and personally explained the business objectives to the employees.
This venture, covering refining, precursors, and cathode materials, is expected to significantly reduce costs, potentially disrupting the pricing dynamics of the cathode materials market.
GEM currently operates a nickel refinery in Indonesia and has strong competitiveness in the precursor market.
