[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] The Korea Communications Commission (KCC) announced on Thursday that it has initiated a fact-finding investigation into KT, the mobile carrier, regarding the large-scale cancellations of pre-orders for Samsung's new flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S25.
Earlier, KT had launched an aggressive promotional campaign for Galaxy S25 pre-orders, offering various coupons and trade-in deals. However, due to overwhelming demand, the company canceled a significant portion of the pre-orders.
KT informed the affected customers that the cancellation occurred because the notification about the "first 1,000 orders only" policy was omitted, and the pre-order period had to end early. As a result, many customers were left frustrated.
Consumers raised suspicions that KT canceled the pre-orders due to financial difficulties in handling the marketing costs, prompting the regulatory body to investigate whether KT violated the Telecommunications Business Act by misleading or exaggerating important terms in their marketing efforts.
The act prohibits such deceptive practices when soliciting consumers. If violations are found, KT could face corrective actions and fines.
