[Alpha Biz= Kim Sangjin] In 2024, almost 90% of new cars sold in Norway were battery electric vehicles (BEVs), according to statistics released by the Norwegian Road Traffic Information Agency (OFV) on Thursday.
Of the 128,691 new cars sold last year, 88.9%, or 114,400 vehicles, were BEVs. This marks an increase in both the number and the percentage of BEV sales compared to the previous year, which saw 82.4% (104,588 vehicles) of new cars sold as BEVs.
In terms of market share by manufacturer, Tesla led the market with a dominant 18.9% share. Volkswagen, Toyota, Volvo, and BMW followed.
Hyundai ranked 7th with a 4.5% share, while Kia ranked 19th with 1.2%.
Although individual Chinese manufacturers had lower market shares, when combined, Chinese electric vehicle makers, including BYD, accounted for more than 10% of the new car market, according to OFV.
