[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Sangjin] Hyundai Construction and Holtec have been named as final candidates for the United Kingdom's first small modular reactor (SMR) project.
On the 14th, Hyundai Construction announced that it, along with Holtec Britain, has made it to the final candidates of the SMR technology competitive bidding program organized by the UK Nuclear Regulator.
The UK Nuclear Regulator aims to expand the country's nuclear power capacity to 24 GW by 2050 and is conducting a program to select operators through competitive bidding for the deployment of advanced SMR technology. Out of six developers that made it to the shortlist earlier this year, four, including Holtec, have reached the final bidding stage. The regulator plans to select two out of the four candidates by the end of this year and finalize investment decisions.
