[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Sangjin] Apple is reportedly in discussions with Meta to integrate Meta's generative AI models into its own artificial intelligence (AI) system called 'Apple Intelligence'. According to the Wall Street Journal on June 23 (local time), Apple is exploring collaboration with Meta on AI initiatives.

Apple Intelligence is the AI system that Apple applies across its devices, including the iPhone. Despite developing its own AI models, Apple aims to enhance its service competitiveness by collaborating with leading AI providers. Previously, Apple partnered with OpenAI, the developer of ChatGPT, to integrate its capabilities into Apple's voice assistant Siri. Apple also expressed interest in integrating Google's generative AI, called LaMDA, into Apple Intelligence.

Additionally, Apple is discussing the integration of AI models from startups like Anthropic and conversational search engine Perplexity into Apple Intelligence, alongside Meta and Google. If Apple collaborates with multiple AI partners, users of Apple devices may have the option to choose which external AI model to use within Apple Intelligence.

Apple's strategy involves allowing AI companies to sell their premium services through Apple Intelligence without requiring them to pay fees upfront. Instead, Apple will share in the revenue generated from these services.
