[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] Chinese TV manufacturers TCL and Hisense, which have been aggressively expanding their presence in the premium TV market, are now facing class action lawsuits in the United States over allegations of false advertising.

According to industry reports on Thursday, Stefan Herrick, a resident of California, recently filed a lawsuit against TCL’s North America subsidiary in the Riverside County Court, California, on behalf of consumers who have experienced similar issues.

Herrick, who purchased a 55-inch TCL Quantum Dot Light-Emitting Diode (QLED) TV via Amazon in July 2023, alleged in his lawsuit that TCL misrepresented the technical specifications and display performance of its QLED TVs. He claimed that some of TCL’s QLED models did not actually incorporate QLED technology or contained only minimal traces of it.

Consumers generally perceive TVs with quantum dot technology as premium products, and the term "QLED TV" implies the actual use of quantum dots. Herrick accused TCL of unfair and deceptive business practices, stating that TCL intentionally misled consumers, causing them to overpay for their products. He is seeking a ban on false advertising and financial compensation for affected buyers.

The lawsuit specifically mentions TCL models Q651, Q672G, and A300W, but it also includes other QLED models sold in California within its scope.

Meanwhile, Hisense is also facing a separate class action lawsuit in the Southern District Court of New York for violations of consumer protection laws.
