[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Jisun] On the 9th, the National Government Employees' Union issued a statement emphasizing that the government should take firm action against Japan's pressure to sell LINE.
They stated, "The government's lukewarm attitude is undermining the national pride and interests of the people," adding, "LINE is a prime example of a successful global company established by South Korea's representative company, Naver, in Japan. Having secured a significant user base in the Japanese market, LINE has solidified its position as a global platform, showcasing the excellence of our technology to the world."
Furthermore, they emphasized, "Despite the critical situation where such an important asset is threatened by pressure from a foreign government, the government has failed to present a clear response. This goes beyond merely a corporate issue; it demonstrates a threat to the competitiveness and independence of the entire nation."
The union criticized the current government's stance, stating, "It is difficult to avoid criticism that the current government lacks the determination to protect the rights and national interests of Korean companies." They urged for a firm and clear response from the government regarding the protection of vital technological assets and economic sovereignty.
Moreover, they stressed the importance of standing up against unreasonable demands from the Japanese government to safeguard the rights of Korean companies and the nation. They concluded by stating that such actions are not only essential for national pride but also for protecting the interests of the people, emphasizing that the government's response will determine South Korea's standing in the international community.
