[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Minyoung] According to the Kumho Tire branch of the National Metalworkers' Union, the union has voted to initiate strike action following a two-day vote that concluded on August 8. The vote saw a 96.43% approval rate for the strike action.
Out of 3,545 total union members, 3,219 participated in the vote, with 3,104 members voting in favor of the strike.
The union had conducted 19 rounds of collective bargaining with the management from June to July, but no agreement was reached on wage increases.
The union's demands include a monthly base salary increase of 159,800 won, performance-based bonuses, job security, and the elimination of discrimination against new members. Despite prolonged negotiations, no consensus was achieved.
On July 29, the union filed for labor dispute mediation with the Labor Relations Commission. However, as the negotiations failed, the commission decided to suspend mediation.
The union plans to convene a strike response committee on August 14 to finalize the details and schedule of the strike action.
