[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Sangjin] Boeing, the American aircraft manufacturer, has announced a restructuring plan that will result in a 10% reduction in its workforce, equating to approximately 17,000 employees.
According to various reports from outlets like the Wall Street Journal and CNN, Boeing's CEO, Dave Calhoun, informed staff on November 11 (local time) that the layoffs would be implemented over the coming months, impacting employees globally.
While Calhoun did not specify how many jobs would be cut in the U.S., it's important to note that Boeing employs around 171,000 people, with approximately 147,000 of those positions based in the United States.
In addition, Calhoun revealed that Boeing is expected to report a third-quarter loss of $9.97 per share, significantly worse than analysts' expectations of $1.19 per share. This further underscores the company's ongoing struggles amid a challenging market environment.
