[Alpha Biz= Kim Sangjin] As the overseas expansion of the payment industry accelerates, Naver Pay's overseas QR payment volume grew approximately 7.7 times year-over-year in the last year.
On the 12th, Naver Pay released its "Overseas QR Payment 2024 Year-End Report," summarizing users' overseas QR payment experiences over the past year.
Naver Pay analyzed that the significant increase in overseas merchants and high user engagement in various events were key drivers of this growth, thanks to its active partnerships with global payment companies.
In addition to existing partnerships with UnionPay and Alipay Plus, Naver Pay began supporting GLN International and WeChat Pay payments last year. The number of supported countries and regions expanded to 66.
When comparing the payment volume from the start of Naver Pay's overseas QR payment service in September 2023 with that of the same period last year, it increased by 7.7 times.
The most popular countries/regions for users were Japan, China, and Thailand, which are frequently visited by domestic travelers.
Last year, Naver Pay hosted a total of 67 overseas QR payment events, with the most popular being the "50% Discount at Japanese Convenience Stores" promotion. The number of new users in Japan during this event in July soared by about 12 times compared to the previous month.
