[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] Air Busan is tightening its regulations on portable battery management to prevent in-flight fire incidents.


This measure comes in response to a recent aircraft fire incident at Gimhae International Airport last month. By reinforcing battery management, Air Busan aims to reduce fire risks onboard and enhance passenger safety.


On Tuesday, Air Busan announced its new policy to minimize in-flight fire hazards. The airline plans to first implement the new measures on select routes starting February 7, before gradually expanding them to all flights.


Under the new regulations, passengers must declare any portable batteries before boarding. Airport staff at the boarding gate will ask passengers whether their baggage contains a battery. 

 

 

If a bag does not contain one, it will be marked with a sticker or tag. In the cabin, only tagged baggage is allowed in overhead compartments, and if an unmarked bag is found there, flight attendants will check it manually. Passengers carrying portable batteries must keep them in their personal possession at all times.
