[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] On May 19, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang announced plans to build a supercomputer and related infrastructure in Taiwan. During his keynote speech at Computex 2025, held at the Taipei Music Center, Huang stated, “Together with Foxconn, the Taiwanese government, and TSMC, we will build Taiwan’s first large-scale AI supercomputer. This is for Taiwan’s AI infrastructure and ecosystem.”



While Taiwan has traditionally been a producer of supercomputers for the world, Huang emphasized his new vision of creating AI infrastructure for Taiwan itself. He noted that building a supercomputer is not just about installing machines—it’s a national-scale project that structurally enhances scientific, technological, industrial, and security capabilities.



The initiative will be a collaborative effort among several Taiwanese companies. Nvidia will supply the supercomputing systems and software, including its GPUs. TSMC will manufacture the chips, Foxconn will assemble the AI hardware, and the Taiwanese government will provide access to the infrastructure for universities, research institutions, and startups.



Huang stated, “TSMC is already conducting extensive scientific and AI research, and Foxconn is deeply engaged in robotics. Building world-class AI infrastructure locally in Taiwan is crucial—it will enable advancements in education, science, and technology.”



He also redefined Nvidia as an "AI infrastructure company," saying, “Just like electricity requires power plants, AI requires factories—and we build those factories.” He added that constructing a 1-gigawatt (GW) data center costs about $8 billion, of which $4 to $5 billion typically goes toward Nvidia server purchases.
