[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Jisun] The National Samsung Electronics Union, the largest union at Samsung Electronics, has declared a general strike and will strike for three days starting today.
According to industry sources on the 7th, the National Samsung Electronics Union plans to continue its industrial action from the 8th to the 10th, including holding rallies in front of the main gate of the Hwaseong plant. The union's demands for the general strike include applying a high wage increase rate for all union members, fulfilling promises of paid leave, improving the criteria for the Excess Profit Sharing (OPI) based on Economic Value Added (EVA), and compensating for wage losses incurred due to the strike.
The National Samsung Electronics Union stated, "Since June 13, the management has not accepted any of our demands during the two-week post-mediation period," and argued, "The management's post-mediation proposal still views workers as disposable and does not consider an equal relationship." They added, "We hold the management fully responsible for all the losses incurred by this strike," and "The responsibility for all managerial losses arising from this strike lies entirely with the management."
The National Samsung Electronics Union has been actively promoting the strike schedule at the workplace and encouraging participation through text messages. On the 3rd, they read an appeal on a YouTube live broadcast, stating, "If more than 5,000 union members gather, we will surely win."
