[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Jisun] The National Samsung Electronics Labor Union, the largest union within Samsung Electronics, will begin its first leave of absence protest on the 7th following the announcement of a strike.
Previously, the National Samsung Electronics Labor Union instructed all its members working at nationwide business sites to participate in the protest by using a day of their annual leave on this day.
The National Samsung Electronics Labor Union has about 28,000 members, accounting for 22% of Samsung Electronics' total workforce of approximately 125,000 employees. The number of participants in the protest has not been disclosed.
However, since this day falls between Memorial Day and the weekend, forming a long holiday, many employees had already planned to take leave, so no production disruptions are expected.
Samsung Electronics management and the National Samsung Electronics Labor Union have been negotiating since January but have been unable to narrow their differences. Following the Central Labor Committee's decision to halt mediation and a union vote, the union secured the right to strike and announced a strike on the 29th of last month.
Since the breakdown of negotiations on the 28th of last month, the management and the National Samsung Electronics Labor Union have not scheduled any further negotiations.
