[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Sangjin] LG Energy Solution announced on the 23rd that it has officially commenced battery module production at its joint venture plant, NextStar Energy, in collaboration with global automaker Stellantis.
Located in Ontario, Canada, the joint venture plant has an annual production capacity of 49.5 GWh, which is sufficient to power approximately 450,000 electric vehicles. The batteries produced at this facility will be used in the next-generation electric vehicles of Stellantis brands, including Chrysler and Jeep.
Following the start of module production, LG Energy Solution plans to sequentially advance to cell production in the first half of next year.
Both companies anticipate that the joint venture plant will become a key hub for expanding their influence in the North American electric vehicle and battery markets.
