[Alpha Biz= Reporter Paul Lee] Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong has been named the "Richest Person in Korea" by Forbes of the United States. It is the first time that Chairman Lee has topped the Forbes survey.
According to the industry on the 19th, Chairman Lee's assets amounted to $ 11.5 billion (15.8 trillion won) in Forbes' "Fifty richest people in Korea."
It is the first time this year that Chairman Lee has topped Forbes' annual survey. The first place last year was Kim Byung-joo, chairman of MBK Partners ($ 9.7 billion).
According to Forbes, Chairman Lee's wealth increased by $ 3.5 billion from $ 8 billion last year. Samsung Electronics' stock price has risen due to the artificial intelligence (AI) craze.
Third place was Seo Jung-jin, honorary chairman of Celltrion ($ 7.5 billion). Cho Jung-ho, chairman of Meritz Financial Group ($ 6.2 billion), and Chung Mong-koo, honorary chairman of Hyundai Motor Group ($ 4.6 billion), followed.
