[Alpha Biz= Reporter Paul Lee] The appeal trial of the divorce case between SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won and Art Center Nabi Director Noh So-young will conclude this week.

According to legal circles on the 14th, the second division of the Seoul High Court (Presiding Judge Kim Si-chul, Kim Ok-gon and Lee Dong-hyun) will hold the second hearing on the divorce suit between Chairman Choi and Director Roh on the 16th and close the hearing.

Choi, who married Roh in 1988, filed for divorce mediation with the court in July 2017. However, he filed for divorce in February 2020 after the agreement fell through due to opposition from Roh.

In the first trial, Roh called on Choi to divide 300 million won in alimony and half of SK shares worth 1 trillion won held by Choi.

The first trial ruled in December 2022 that Chairman Choi should pay Director Roh 66.5 billion won in property division and 100 million won in alimony, respectively. Chairman Choi's SK shares were unique assets even before his marriage, and Director Roh did not contribute to the process of forming assets.

Both sides later appealed against the ruling.

Roh changed the form of property division required at the time of the first trial from stocks to cash and raised the amount to 2 trillion won.

On the other hand, Choi argued that he could accept 66.5 billion won in property division but not 100 million won in alimony.

Meanwhile, Roh is also in the process of filing a compensation suit against Choi's cohabitant, Kim Hee-young, chairman of the TNC Foundation, seeking 3 billion won in compensation.

The sentencing of this case is expected in late May or early June.
