[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] Hyundai Motor and Kia will take voluntary corrective action (recall) on nearly 170,000 electric vehicles. This is the largest recall of electric vehicles in history.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport said on the 14th that it will launch a recall after manufacturing defects were found in 232,000 units of 12 models from four companies, including Hyundai Motor Co., Kia Motors Corp., Stellatis Korea Co. and Tesla Korea Co.

The 169,932 Hyundai and Kia electric vehicles subject to the recall were found to have errors in the Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) software.

113,916 units and Kia EV6 56,016 units of five models, including Hyundai Motor's Ionic 5, Ionic 6, Genesis GV60 and GV70 and GV80 EV electric-powered models, will be recalled from the 18th for this reason.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport explains that low-voltage battery charging is impossible due to ICCU software errors and that the vehicle may stop while driving.

In addition, Hyundai Motor's Avante 61,131 units will begin corrective action on the 19th after they have been found to be fixed in an upward light state due to a lack of durability of headlights.

Kia Ray's 126 units were declared unfit for safety standards because they did not have airbag warnings on their sunshades. The corrective action will begin on the 20th.
