[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Jisun] Daesang Corporation’s subsidiaries, Daesang Vietnam and Daesang Duc Viet, have each completed the construction of their second factories in Hai Duong and Hung Yen in northern Vietnam. This move aims to expand the company's global production capabilities and promote the spread of K-food.
On June 3rd, Daesang announced that it has invested 30 billion KRW in expanding its Vietnamese operations by adding one new factory building each at the Hai Duong factory of Daesang Vietnam and the Hung Yen factory of Daesang Duc Viet.
Vietnam is a key market for Daesang's global business, with combined sales from its food and materials businesses exceeding 200 billion KRW last year. This is nearly double the sales recorded six years ago in 2017, attributed to the increasing local demand fueled by the K-food trend. Daesang's global food brand, O’food, leads the Vietnamese market share for seaweed. Other popular products include convenient kimchi seasoning kits, tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes), and hot dogs.
With this new investment, Daesang Vietnam has expanded the annual production capacity of the Hai Duong factory by 40%, specifically increasing its market-leading seaweed production line and establishing a new line for ambient ready-to-eat meals with high growth potential. Similarly, the expansion at Daesang Duc Viet's Hung Yen factory has more than doubled its annual production capacity.
The new kimchi production line will enable Daesang to aggressively increase its market share through the local production of Jongga Kimchi. Additionally, Daesang plans to strengthen its presence in the ready-to-eat market, leveraging its global food brand O’food.
