[Alpha Biz= Paul Lee] U.S. President Donald Trump purchased corporate bonds issued by Netflix and Warner Bros. Discovery during the period when he publicly expressed skepticism about Netflix’s attempted acquisition of the media group, according to a report by Reuters.
Financial disclosures show Trump bought between $1.1 million and $2.25 million worth of Netflix bonds in four transactions between December and January. The bonds, which mature in November 2029 and carry a 5.375% coupon, were purchased at about $1.03 to $1.04 per dollar of face value.
He also purchased at least $1 million worth of Warner Bros. Discovery bonds in December, according to the report.
The purchases came as Trump publicly pressured Netflix over its attempted takeover of Warner Bros. Discovery, questioning the potential market dominance of the combined company and criticizing Netflix’s board leadership earlier this year.
Netflix ultimately abandoned its acquisition bid last month. Following the decision, the company’s stock rebounded sharply as investors welcomed the reduced financial risk tied to acquiring the heavily indebted media group.
