[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Sangjin] Hyundai and Kia are recalling over 208,000 electric vehicles (EVs) in the U.S. due to a defect in the Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU).

According to a recall report from the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on the 22nd (local time), the affected vehicles include 2022–2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5, 2023–2025 Hyundai Ioniq 6, Genesis GV60, GV70, and about 145,000 units of these models. Kia is recalling 63,000 units of the 2022–2024 Kia EV6.

The ICCU is a crucial electronic control system responsible for managing charging and power in electric and hybrid vehicles. The recall report stated that the transistor in the ICCU may be damaged, causing the 12V battery charging to stop, which could increase the risk of accidents.

Hyundai and Kia dealers will inspect the affected devices, replace them if necessary, and update the software, according to the report.
