[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Sangjin] Hanwha Aerospace announced on the 10th that it has signed a contract to supply 54 K9 self-propelled howitzers to Romania. This follows the decision made last month by South Korean Defense Minister Shin Won-sik and Romanian Defense Minister Angel Tilvar to procure the K9 howitzers. Hanwha Aerospace will collaborate with local companies to sequentially deliver 54 K9 howitzers and 36 K10 ammunition resupply vehicles starting from 2027.
In addition to the K9 and K10, the contract also includes reconnaissance and meteorological observation wheeled equipment, as well as ammunition, forming a comprehensive 'self-propelled howitzer package'. Hanwha Aerospace aims to provide Romania with a total defense solution.
With Romania becoming the 10th country to operate the K9, the cumulative export total of K9 and K10 systems has surpassed 13 trillion KRW. Romania's addition also means that six NATO member countries have now adopted the K9 self-propelled howitzer.
