[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] Choi Soo-yeon, CEO of NAVER, met with Emmanuel Macron on April 3 during the French president’s visit to South Korea marking the 140th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

The meeting was attended on NAVER’s side by CFO Kim Hee-chul, NAVER Cloud CEO Kim Yoo-won, and NAVER Labs CEO Seok Sang-ok. The French delegation included senior presidential aides responsible for foreign affairs and international economic policy.

During the meeting, Choi highlighted NAVER’s key initiatives in France, including its operation of NAVER Labs Europe, a globally recognized AI research institute based in Grenoble, and its investment participation in Korelya Capital, a venture firm founded by former French Minister for the Digital Economy Fleur Pellerin.

Choi also emphasized NAVER’s full-stack AI capabilities, spanning proprietary large language models (LLMs), data centers, cloud infrastructure, and large-scale consumer services—all integrated through in-house technology. She expressed interest in expanding collaboration opportunities with French AI companies.

President Macron outlined France’s current AI policy initiatives and conveyed his commitment to fostering deeper technological exchange, investment, and partnerships between the two countries in AI and cloud industries.

The meeting was arranged at the request of the French government, which sought to engage with leading Korean business executives to explore avenues for bilateral cooperation.
