[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] Regarding Harim's failure to acquire HMM, Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries Minister Kang Do-hyung said on the 7th, "There are no plans for the re-sale at the moment."
Asked about the sale of the HMM at a follow-up briefing on the people's livelihood held at the Seoul Government Complex, Kang said, "HMM is a company with state funds. It has a stance to ensure that it operates in a sound manner."
Minister Kang's remarks appear to have expressed his position that the government will come up with measures to stabilize management control as HMM plays a role as a national carrier.
The Korea Development Bank and the Korea Maritime Promotion Agency have been negotiating Harim Group as the preferred bidder for the sale of the HMM. However, it finally broke down due to lingering differences over whether or not to intervene in management. Accordingly, HMM will be maintained as a creditor management system for the time being.
