[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Sangjin] The U.S. patent troll that previously targeted Samsung Electronics has now filed a lawsuit against LG Electronics.
According to industry sources, the U.S. biometrics specialist Proxense recently sued LG Electronics for patent infringement in the U.S. Western District Court of Texas. The patents in question are related to biometric authentication, with all six patents being key technologies in mobile payment solutions. Proxense claims that these technologies have been used without authorization in LG Pay and LG Smart Key, and has requested injunctive relief and monetary damages from the court.
This isn't the first time Proxense has sued a Korean company. In 2021, it sued Samsung Electronics' Korean headquarters and U.S. subsidiary, alleging unauthorized use of its patents in Samsung Pay services. Despite Samsung's counterclaims of patent invalidity, the U.S. court ruled in favor of Proxense. Subsequently, Samsung Electronics reached a settlement agreement with Proxense to conclude the lawsuit.
