Line Yahoo is discontinuing Line Pay services in Japan.

[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Jisun] Line Yahoo will terminate its Line Pay service in Japan while maintaining services in Taiwan and Thailand.
On the 13th, Line Yahoo announced plans to discontinue Line Pay in Japan by April 30, 2025. Line Yahoo explained, "Considering changes in the management environment surrounding Line Pay and optimal allocation of management resources within the Line Yahoo Group, we have decided to integrate money transfer and payment services in Japan under PayPay and terminate the Line Pay service in Japan."
Line has expanded its user base by leveraging payment convenience and Line Messenger. As of last month, Line Pay had accumulated over 44 million users in Japan.
Naver, the parent company of Line Yahoo, is exploring all possibilities, including the sale of its stake in A Holdings, and is in negotiations with SoftBank.
