[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Jisun] The LG Chem announced on the 29th that it has entered into the film market for vehicle sunroof by signing an order for SGF film with Webasto of Germany, a global electronics parts company. SGF is a film that can control the transmittance of light and heat through electrical signals.
SGF is mainly used for car glass such as sunroofs. It is usually opaque, but when voltage is applied, the internal liquid crystal is rearranged and turns transparent.
The LG Chem will supply SGF to Webasto over the next few years. Webasto plans to use this to create an advanced sunroof system and install it in European finished cars. The supply is expected to reach hundreds of billions of won.
According to The LG Chem, demand for SGF has recently been on the rise, especially in premium vehicles and electric vehicles. The LG Chem expects to form a trillion-dollar market within a few years.
