[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Jisun] The South Korean Ministry of Defense is set to establish a new system based on Naver Cloud, marking the first instance of a civilian cloud-based system within the ministry. This initiative is expected to set a precedent for the broader adoption of civilian cloud solutions in the public sector.

On the 21st, industry sources reported that the Ministry of Defense has selected a preferred bidder for its "One-Stop Service Platform for Soldiers" project. This project aims to provide integrated services throughout the entire military lifecycle, from enlistment to discharge, encompassing administrative support, welfare, skill development, and health services.

The project gained attention for its implementation on a civilian cloud platform. Following the evaluation on the 20th, Megazone, which proposed using Naver Cloud, ranked first in both technical and pricing assessments, securing the preferred bidder position. Samsung SDS, which offered its own Samsung Cloud Platform (SCP), was narrowly outscored in both categories.

The project is set to span three years, with the initial focus on building the cloud-based platform and services by next year. In 2025, the Ministry plans to explore the integration of AI and other cloud-based technologies. The industry anticipates that this initiative by the Ministry of Defense will positively influence the public cloud market in South Korea.
