[Alphabiz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] More than half of Kakao's employees joined the Kakao labor union. It has been five years since IT· game unions were launched in Pangyo, once called a "labor union wasteland."

Kakao's labor union Crew Union held a press conference at Kakao's Pangyo office in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province, on the 17th and said, "It is certain that a majority of the unions will be achieved under the Labor Union Act." 

 

According to the Kakao union, as of January 2023, there are about 1,900 Kakao members, and the total number of Kakao employees is 3,603 as of June last year's semi-annual report. If recognized as a majority union, the Kakao union can act as a representative of the workers. 

 

However, under the Labor Standards Act, labor and management are discussing whether to achieve a majority union due to differences in workers' standards from the Labor Union Act.

The Kakao union plans to prepare a "direct consent procedure" for its members to stabilize the work system and discuss with the company to ensure that the type of work can be decided on an organizational basis.
