[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] SNT Heavy Industries announced on the 30th that it has signed a contract to export a 1,500 horsepower automatic transmission to be installed in Turkey's BMC's Altay Main Battle Tank (MBT). It is the first export contract for the Korean defense industry this year, and the scale is 200 million euros (approximately 270 billion won).

First of all, SNT Heavy Industries will supply BMC with automatic transmissions for Altay main battle tanks worth 68.93 million euros (about 93 billion won) from this year to 2027. Subsequently, an additional option purchase contract for automatic transmissions worth 130.9 million euros (approximately 177 billion won) from 2028 to 2030 was also included in the contract.

This export is the first case in which high-cost key defense parts for tanks were independently developed and exported overseas. In the future, new exports to the global defense market such as the United States, Europe, and the Middle East and backward effects are expected in the MRO (maintenance, repair, and overhaul) field.
