[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] Singapore's first comprehensive railway test center (ITTC) construction project, which is under construction by GS Engineering & Construction with the goal of completion in 2025, is a site that the overseas construction industry is paying attention to. 

 

This is because it is a high-level construction that has won orders from the Singapore Land Transport Authority (LTA), an ordering company that has a reputation for being strict around the world beyond just overseas projects. 

 

It is expected that GS Engineering & Construction's technology will once again be a catalyst for global recognition after it has won more than 4 trillion won in orders for railroad construction alone and the center is successfully completed.

According to the industry on the 7th, GS Engineering & Construction won an order for the construction of a comprehensive railway test center from the Singapore Land Transport Authority in April 2020. 

 

The project is to build a total of three test tracks for each function to build a comprehensive railway test center that can test vehicles, signals, telecommunications and other railway products.

The business site is located on the Malaysian border, which takes about 40 minutes by car from Changi Airport in the west of Singapore.

The Singapore Railway Testing Center is the only facility in the world that requires high-level technology, according to the company.

The Singapore Land Transport Authority, the ordering agency, has limited the bidding criteria from the bidding stage to "a reliable company that can be completed properly in a timely manner." Only two companies, the Australian consortium and GS Engineering & Construction, were eligible to bid. GS Engineering & Construction has collaborated with the Korea Railroad Research Institute (KRRI) from the early stages of bidding to win business orders. 

 

Through this, the optimal design plan was presented with the experience of constructing major subways and buildings in Singapore and the only comprehensive railway test track in Korea.

As of February this year, two years and two months after construction began in December 2020, the process rate is about 61%. The business site, which used to be a wasteland, began to be equipped with railroad tracks and test centers. It is expected to be completed in April 2025.

Including this project, GS Engineering & Construction has achieved a total of nine orders from Singapore's Land Transport Authority, amounting to about 4.3 trillion won. The building-type vehicle base project, which GS Engineering & Construction won in 2016, is currently the world's largest. The construction cost is about 1.7 trillion won. Among the construction ordered by the Singapore Land Transport Authority, the construction cost is also the largest ever.
