When the acquisition of the HSD engine is completed, synergy is expected around shipbuilding, defense, and renewable energy, and the succession process of Vice Chairman Kim Dong-kwan (photo), who is in charge of future businesses, is also expected to speed up.

According to the industry on the 19th, Hanwha Impact signed a business agreement to acquire a 33% stake in HSD on the 16th. Hanwha plans to complete the acquisition within the third quarter after reviewing the approval of the business combination after canceling the main contract in April.

Hanwha's acquisition of HSD Engine is considered to show Hanwha's commitment to the shipbuilding industry.

This is because if Hanwha, which acquires Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering, embraces HSD engines, it can achieve vertical integration from ship construction to engine manufacturing.

Synergy is also expected in the energy sector with the acquisition of the HSD engine. This is because combining Hanwha Impact's gas turbine technology can speed up the production of eco-friendly engines such as hydrogen and ammonia.

Recently, Hanwha Group integrated the defense business of the group, which was distributed to three companies, Hanwha Aerospace, ㈜ Hanwha, and Hanwha Defense, into Hanwha Aerospace. The plan is to strengthen management efficiency and expertise by integrating the group's defense business and become a "Korean version of Lockheed Martin."

The future business that Hanwha Group is focusing on along with shipbuilding and defense is the renewable energy business.

Hanwha Solution, which leads the renewable energy business, held an extraordinary shareholders' meeting on the 13th and confirmed the personnel division of the Galleria division, a department store division.
