[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] Korea Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co., an intermediate holding company in the shipbuilding sector of HD Hyundai (formerly Hyundai Heavy Industries Group), has won a contract to build liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers at the highest price ever in Korea of more than KRW 1 trillion.

Korea Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co. said on the 2nd that it recently signed a contract with a North American shipping company to build three LNG carriers. The total amount of orders is 1.78 trillion won. The order amount per ship is $ 255 million, the highest ever based on the 174,000㎥ LNG carrier.

The LNG carrier is called a profitable ship, with South Korea winning about 80 percent of the world's orders. The drying price is the highest among all types of paper.

The ships ordered by Korea Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co. will be built at Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries Co. in Yeongam, South Jeolla Province, and will be delivered sequentially by December 2027.
