An open chat room is a chat room that is open to an unspecified number of people. The Personal Information Committee will look into the security vulnerabilities of the KakaoTalk open chat room, the circumstances and scale of personal information leakage, and whether technical and administrative protection measures are taken.

According to the information technology (IT) security industry, an advertisement from a company that extracts information such as real names and phone numbers of KakaoTalk open chat room participants was recently posted on a site trading online marketing programs.

Immediately after recognizing this, Kakao said it blocked the chat room and information extraction company.

However, he explained that it is structurally impossible to check the phone numbers, e-mails, and conversations of participants on open chat, and that if personal information was leaked, it was used by means other than open chat.
