[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] In the aftermath of the large-scale fire at Hankook Tire's Daejeon plant, Hyundai Motor Co. and Kia Motors Co. will replace some of their OE tires from Hankook Tire with Kumho and Nexen Tire products. Most of the models have multiple suppliers, so it is understood that there is no major problem in production right away, but Kia Ray, which is supplied with all Hankook Tire products, is expected to suffer a setback in some production.

According to the auto parts industry on the 19th, Hyundai Motor and Kia have recently drawn up a production adjustment plan that includes the current status of fires at Hankook Tire's Daejeon plant and countermeasures. Hyundai Motor's models, which have been decided to be replaced by the fire, are "first-generation Kona (code name OS)" and "seventh-generation CN7" produced at the Ulsan plant.

Even after the launch of the second generation, Hankook Tire and Nexen Tire products have been supplied in parallel to the old Kona, which is still produced for export at Ulsan Plant 1. The fire will take out the inventory of Hankook Tire products first, and if they are completely exhausted, Nexen Tire products will be replaced to produce them.

In addition to Hyundai Motor and Kia, other South Korean carmakers, which are supplied with Hankook Tire products, are also preparing additional countermeasures against the prolonged situation by discussing the supply of replacements with Kumho Tire and Nexen Tire while closely watching the damage.
