[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Jisun] Hanwha Systems' Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) radar antenna for combat aircraft is making its debut in the European defense market. On the 13th (local time), Hanwha Systems signed a contract with the Italian defense company Leonardo for the supply of AESA radar antennas for fighter jets. Leonardo, an Italian aerospace company, is a leading defense contractor in Europe, producing aircraft, radar systems, and electronic warfare equipment.
AESA radar is mounted on the front of fighter jets and plays the role of "eyes," detecting and tracking aerial, ground, and maritime targets simultaneously. Both companies are also jointly researching and developing a new AESA radar for next-generation fighter jets.
