POSCO International launches its new plant in Poland to expand sales of electric vehicle parts

[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] POSCO International will start construction of a new plant in Poland within this year and increase production in order to expand production of DriveMotercore, an electric vehicle component produced through its subsidiary POSCO Mobility Solution.
According to industry sources on the 14th, POSCO International and POSCO Mobility Solutions will start construction of their drive-Mottercore plant in Poland in the second half of this year and start operation in 2025. Polish authorities are expected to conduct an environmental impact assessment of the plant soon.
DriveMoterCore is a component that generates electricity in electric motors, accounting for 40% of the production cost of electric motors. Electric motors account for 15% of the production cost of electric vehicles, second only to batteries (30%).
POSCO Mobility Solution plans to expand its production volume of DriveMoterCore from 2.25 million units this year to 4.27 million units in 2025 and more than 7 million units in 2030.
Drive Motorcore, manufactured by POSCO Mobility Solutions, will be installed in most electric vehicles of global finished vehicles such as Hyundai Motor and Kia. The company is also considering expanding its existing plants in Pohang, North Gyeongsang Province, and Cheonan, South Chungcheong Province.
