[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] SK Telecom has completed the development of virtual private network (VPN) technology based on quantum cryptography communication with SK Square subsidiary IDQ and network security equipment company Xgate.
According to SKT on the 17th, IDQ's QRNG chipset was linked to Xgate's VPN server equipment to develop a quantum cryptography communication-based VPN. Strong security is the biggest advantage compared to the past, and it plans to launch commercial services in the second half of this year.
VPN is a technology used to protect data sent and received from the internal network of an enterprise or institution. It is cheaper than building a separate dedicated network. Since VPN protects data by adding encryption and decryption processes in the process of sending and receiving data, it is important to apply a high level of security technology to encryption and decryption during transmission and reception.
Quantum cryptography communication-based VPN is equipped with quantum cryptography communication technology, which is the best security technology currently in existence. Security has been greatly improved by utilizing quantum randomness technology in existing encryption methods that can be exposed to the risk of hacking by quantum computing.
Also, since it is implemented by applying the QRNG chipset to the VPN equipment of Xgate, there is no need for additional equipment other than the equipment needed to use the existing VPN. The monthly fee is the same as the existing VPN, so the economic efficiency is high.
