[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] Naver has decided to raise wages by 4.8% this year from last year. The wage increase rate fell to a single digit and was lower than Kakao for the second consecutive year.

Naver's labor union has held a two-day wage and group negotiation vote since the 16th. The provisional agreement for a 4.8% increase was approved with a 61% approval rating.

The management initially proposed a 3.8 percent wage increase, but slightly raised it to 4.8 percent due to labor union resistance. The figure is far below the 11 percent increase demanded by the union. Instead, Stockgrant, which was originally scheduled to be given only by next year, will be given two more years by 2026.

In fact, the rate of increase is lower than Kakao. Kakao has agreed to raise its headquarters to 6% this year. Last year, Naver's wage increase rate (10%) was lower than Kakao (15%).

Kakao also receives a higher average salary for employees. Last year, the average salary of Kakao and Naver employees was 139 million won and 134.49 million won, respectively. It is an average that reflects the profits of all employees, excluding registered executives, from exercising stock options. Kakao has been ahead of Naver for three consecutive years since the average salary of both companies reversed from 2020, and the gap is expected to widen this year.
