[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] As China tightens internal and external control, local access to portal site Naver has been blocked.
China has previously blocked Daum access to portal sites since January 2019.
According to local Korean residents and media on the 22nd, it has not been able to connect to Naver or the loading speed has been ridiculously slow in major areas in China such as Beijing and Shenyang, Liaoning Province.
A growing number of Korean residents in Beijing complain that Naver will not be held. This is because overseas Koreans share various life and travel information and trade goods through Naver. Also, there are many Korean residents who use Naver mail and Naver dictionary.
In China, Naver cafes and blogs have been blocked since October 2018, but search functions and email access have been freely available.
However, Naver site can only be accessed by installing Virtual Reality Network (VPN), an Internet bypass access program.
In China, YouTube and Facebook, as well as messengers such as KakaoTalk and Telegram, are blocked by the so-called "grand firewall" and cannot be used without VPN.
