[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] The secretariat of the News Alliance Evaluation Committee said it will temporarily suspend the activities of the alliance evaluation committee at a plenary meeting of the steering committee of the News Alliance Evaluation Committee held at the Korea Press Center on the 22nd.
The News Alliance Evaluation Committee is an autonomous organization established for alliances between Naver, Kakao and the media that operate news services. The preparatory committee was launched in 2015 and has been in charge of reviewing and sanctioning news entry from both companies for seven years since 2016.
Naver and Kakao explained that they decided to suspend their activities, judging that new plans need to be reviewed in addition to the current alliance evaluation committee to form an alliance model suitable for the changing media environment. In order to improve news services, we will have time to collect opinions from all walks of life and find better alternatives and development directions.
Due to the temporary suspension of the News Alliance Evaluation Committee, the portal news entry review will also be suspended for the time being.
The secretariat of the News Alliance Evaluation Committee emphasized, "We will closely examine the alliance evaluation system that can maintain neutrality and fairness through the process of collecting external public opinion such as public hearings during the suspension of activities."
