[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, secretary general of the World Trade Organization (WTO), visited 1784, the second building of the futuristic space where Naver's high-tech technologies are concentrated. Secretary-General WTO's visit to Korea is the first time in about 10 years since 2014, and it is also the first time that Secretary-General WTO has visited a Korean Internet platform company in person.
Naver (CEO Choi Soo-yeon) announced on the 23rd that Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala WTO Secretary-General visited Naver 1784 during his visit to Korea. Secretary-General Ngozi is the first African and the first female Secretary-General of WTO.
Secretary-General Ngozi's group visited 1784 and experienced advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), robots, and digital twins possessed by Naver, and emphasized the importance of digital technology in the field of trade. The visit was attended by Chae Seon-ju, Naver's representative of external/environment/social/governance (ESG) policy and Seok Sang-ok, Naver Labs representative.
"Digital technology will determine the trade future, and digital transformation will bring challenges and opportunities for industries and governments," Secretary-General Ngozi WTO said. "We have confirmed that Korea is at the forefront of digital transformation through encouraging discussions with young Korean digital entrepreneurs today, and WTO will also contribute to international cooperation and establishing a domestic policy framework to promote digital trade."
Naver's second building, 1784, is the world's first robot-friendly building, a technology convergence space that continues to evolve through the convergence of advanced technology and space. In fact, innovative technology experiments that Naver is trying through 1784 are drawing attention from all over the world.
By March, more than 4,000 people had visited 54 countries around the world, including Undersecretary of State and Homeland Security, Singapore's Minister of Information and Communication, and Austria's Speaker of the House of Representatives.
In particular, in the case of Majed al-Hogail, the Minister of Autonomous Administration and Housing of Saudi Arabia, which seeks digital transformation at the national level, there were concrete results, including an in-person visit to 1784 and the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Naver for digital transformation at the national level.
