[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] BGF Group, which operates convenience store CU, will take over a semiconductor material company.
BGF Materials, an affiliate of BGF Group's material division, said on the 25th that it has signed a stock transfer agreement (SPA) with KNW, a semiconductor material company, to acquire its subsidiary Fluorin Korea.
BGF is scheduled to acquire 3,924,646 KNW shares on August 25 for about 50 billion won. It will become the largest shareholder with a 56.7% stake.
BGF plans to expand its scope to high-tech materials businesses to further increase its growth potential.
KNW is a display material company established in 2001 and listed on the KOSDAQ market in 2009. In 2021, it acquired the Onsan division of Solbay Korea, a special gas company, and expanded its business size.
The core product of Fluorin Korea is high-purity F2 gas used for etching and cleaning in semiconductor ultra-fine processes. It is a high-efficiency special gas and is widely used as an eco-friendly gas that does not affect ozone.
Fluorine Korea is known to have high business competitiveness in the field of F2 gas due to its high level of technology.
The BGF Group changed its name to BGF Materials and strengthened its material business after acquiring Cofra, which produced high-functioning plastics and electric vehicle materials in 2021.
