[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] LS Cable & System announced on the 26th that it has signed a contract with Austin, Denmark, the world's No. 1 offshore wind power company, to supply undersea cables to offshore wind farms in Janghwa Prefecture, Taiwan. The contract size is 189.2 billion won.
Taiwan's Janghwa Prefecture Offshore Wind Farm is the largest offshore wind farm in the Asia-Pacific region. It will be built at a scale of 920MW in an area 35 to 60km off the coast of Janghwa Prefecture in western Taiwan, and will produce renewable energy after its completion at the end of 2025.
Earlier, LS Cable & System won all contracts to supply ultra-high-pressure undersea cables for eight projects in Taiwan's first offshore wind farm construction project. The cumulative order amount from 2019 is about 1 trillion won. Taiwan plans to complete a 5.5GW wind farm through the first project by 2025 and develop an additional 15GW by 2035.
LS Cable & System recently acquired a stake in KT Submarine, a submarine cable construction company. There are only about five companies in the world that can supply the entire manufacturing and construction of undersea cables, and LS Cable is the only one in Korea.
