[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] Asiana Airlines' pilot union, which failed to reach an agreement with the management on the wage increase rate, will launch a dispute. Bad news seems to continue along with the recent delay in approval of a business combination with Korean Air and the occurrence of a door-opening accident during flight.

According to related industries on the 29th, the pilot union won 874 votes or 92.39 percent of the votes in favor of the dispute, which involved 1,095 union members from the 23rd to the 28th.

Accordingly, it will hold a launching ceremony on the 7th of next month and begin dispute activities. Asiana Airlines' pilot union completed the formation of a dispute committee on the 28th.

The union is said to be planning to step up its intensity, starting with a "law-abiding struggle" to delay flights within legal regulations.

"The results of the vote show the anger of union members who have devoted themselves to flight safety and passenger safety by enduring wage cuts during COVID-19," said Choi Do-sung, head of Asiana Airlines' pilots' union.

In addition, Asiana Airlines is currently suffering from delayed approval of a business combination with Korean Air. Of the 14 countries that applied for a corporate combination review, 11, including South Korea, have been approved, but three - the U.S., the European Union (EU) and Japan - have yet to be approved. All three remaining countries are essential reporting countries, and the merger will fail if only one of them opposes it. Currently, both the United States and the EU are reportedly not in favor of the merger.
